May 2017 Cambria County Health and Welfare Council Meeting Minutes

 The regular monthly meeting of the Cambria County Health and Welfare Council was held on May 4, 2017 at 8:30am at the Alleghenies UCP.

    • Opioid education and Narcan Training Available - Somerset SCA is able to provide an opioid education and narcan training to your agency.     • June 8th – PTSD and Veteran Resource Program from 9am to 3:15 pm at American Red Cross
  • Self-Determination Housing Project
    • Hiring 3 new regional housing coordinators
    • Carol will be new to Cambria County in June
  • Senior Life Johnstown
    • Partnering with local agencies for a variety of Wellness Programs
  • Coaches 4 Kids
    • Golf Tournament on June 10th with a 1:30 pm Shotgun start
    • Playground take over project with Goodwill at the Park Ave. and Wood Street playgrounds from 4pm to 8pm

  • Finance Report was shared by Liz McGregor
    • Membership fees were added to the account for a newbalance of $11,074.34
  • Kids-a-Fair
    • June 9th from 4pm to 7pm at Trojan Stadium
    • Planning Meeting on May 19th at 12:30pm at Beginnings, Inc
    • Still in need of flyers to distribute to kids
  • Narcan training - If you are interested in the training that was sent out via e-mail on April 12 and included above, please let Marlene Singer know.

Program:

Jeffrey Lees, Cambria County Coroner’s Office, introduced himself to the membership.  Jeffrey discussed Suicide Prevention and the Cambria County Yellow Ribbon Program.

  •  The Coroner’s Office created a video for local schools (guidance counselors) to show students in small groups to introduce the Yellow Ribbon Program for suicide prevention.
