April 2017 Cambria County Health and Welfare Council Meeting Minutes

 The regular monthly meeting of the Cambria County Health and Welfare Council was held on April 5, 2017 at 8:30am at the Alleghenies UCP.

Call to Order:  Davina Bixby, President

    • No changes to account for the month
    • Liz McGregor is the new treasurer for the Cambria County Health and Welfare Council
  • Davina Bixby announced a vacant spot on the CCHWC executive board.  Anyone interested in 2nd Vice President is asked to contact Davina at dbixby@gswpa.org. If more than one person is interested in a spot it will go to a vote to the membership.
  • Check the Website for updated announcements.

Program:

Carla Smith, Cambria County Human Trafficking Response Team, introduced herself to the membership.  Carla discussed the 2nd fastest growing crime, Human Trafficking.

  • Labor Trafficking and Sex Trafficking are the two types of Human Trafficking
  • Local signs are increase in hospital STD test for young girls and males not leaving the side of female patients
  • Several things can make victim’s vulnerable:
    • Age, unstable home life, homelessness, physical/sexual abuse or neglect, history of running away, low self-esteem, addiction to drugs/alcohol, or involvement with the juvenile justice system/child welfare system
  • View the You Tube video “The making of a Girl” for a look at human trafficking
  • The Cambria County Human Trafficking Response Team grew out of the SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) and is a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Hosting a screening of “I am Jane Doe” on April 27th at Westwood Plaza at 6:30pm
